Eric Baldwin Wins Event #34, $1.5k NLHE

Towards the end of the $1,500 No-Limit Hold ‘em event it looked like Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier was going to complete a Triple Crown of his own and add a WSOP bracelet to his EPT and WPT titles.

However, despite holding a massive chip lead with 21 players remaining, the French ex-Starcraft pro lost a series of large pots in succession including being on the wrong end of AA v KK. He finished 13th.

Roland DeWolfe had hopes of making it bracelet number two at the 2009 WSOP but despite valiantly battling on with a short stack he could do no better than 5th. Baldwin had made it four-handed by picking his spots before upping the aggression to take the chip lead three-handed.

Baldwin faced Jonas Klausen heads-up and it seemed like a well-matched battle before a huge hand in which Baldwin flopped a set of fours while Klausen flopped top two pair, catapulting Baldwin to an 8-to-1 chip lead. A few hands later -- about forty into their heads-up battle -- Baldwin used pocket tens to take the title.
