ESPN to Air WSOP From Tuesday, July 28th

Wednesday, 22 July 2009

The final table at the 2009 WSOP has been set and the action has paused, meaning that ESPN can stop airing re-runs of the 2008 WSOP and begin broadcasting the new action.

This year, 24 hours are dedicated to the Main Event including the final table action. The $40K event, which is a one-time event commemorating 40 years of the WSOP, will be the first to air. A two-hour episode will show Tuesday, July 28th at 8:00 p.m. ET. Two other two-hour episodes will follow Event #2 on the airwaves; the WSOP Champions Invitational and the Ante Up for Africa charity tournament.

The Main Event final table will play out on Tuesday, November 10th where Phil Ivey will be trying for his eighth bracelet as big stack Darvin Moon leads the field.

ESPN poker host Norman Chad said Ivey possessed "mystical, magical qualities." Chad continued that Ivey can induce a "sense of terror, poker-wise. He has an amazing table presence... If you have the greatest player in the world, and you have a logger who his whole business is lumber and logs, at the same final table. Phil Ivey and Darvin Moon are the Main Event in a nutshell. That you could have that much diversity of person and player. If you start right there, you have a good final table."
