The Hyatt Regency Casino in Warsaw, Poland is the centre of European poker this week with the arrival of the European Poker Tour. Notable players who had made the trip included Peter Jepsen, Julian Thew, Gino Alacqua and Team PokerStars members Katja Thater and Dario Minieri.
Julian Thew had a rollercoaster of a day, at one point finding himself as low as 700 chips. In a typical ‘Thew at the EPT’ fashion though, he managed to claw his way back to a mere top ten finish by the close of play. He had to win his share of coin flips to do so, and even had to hit a two-outer when his Queens were outflopped by AK. The Queen on the turn kept Thew in business though.
The day wasn’t too successful for Team PokerStars though, as they lost both Katja Thater and Dario Minieri. Over half of the field were wiped up in the first day, leaving 79 to come back on Thursday for Day 2. The top ten stacks from Day 1a looked like this:
Robert Flink — 113,300
Anio Alcaraz — 78,000
Alp Okumus — 62,100
Jospeh Serock — 55,000
Andreas Torbergsen — 53,000
Daniel Hofmeister — 51,900
Jean Claude Perrot — 50,100
Tyler Netter — 42,600
David Burn — 41,700
Kenneth Hicks Jr. — 41,200
