Day 1a of the European Poker Tour’s stop in Copenhagen saw a
line-up including some of the biggest names in European poker, with
a random Canadian with a Romanian sounding name thrown in there. It
was lights out for all of them though as the Scandinavians
dominated.
Amongst those starting the day were Daniel Negreanu, Mel Judah,
Thor Hansen, EPT Barcelona champ Sander Lyloff, World Series of
Poker Europe Main Event Champion Annette Obrestad and Gus Hansen,
who came off the back of winning an award for Best Live Player at
the Scandinavian Poker Awards.
Out of the 230 who began the day, 82 made it to see Day 2. One
of the first notable exits was Sorel Mizzi, whose pocket aces were
cracked on the river by pocket queens. Before not too long, he was
joined by Nicolas Jedlicka, Dario Minieri and Bertrand Grospellier,
who showed just how wretched the Bluff Europe tip for success
really is by exiting within the first few levels. As for Obrestad
and Hansen, the only things they will be leaving Copenhagen with
are their awards, both eliminated by the close of play.
One player who did have a good close to the day was Ola
Brandborn, mainly after a failed bluff turned (well, rivered) good.
On an eight-high flop, Brandborn moved over the top of Danny Silk’s
bet, only to find Silk in possession of pocket tens. Brandborn’s
bluff was a complete air-ball with Ac-6c, but the ace on the river
sent Silk to the rail.
With Noah Boeken and Alex Kravchenko making late moves in the
day, the overnight chip leaders look like this:
Ola Brandborn – 80,000
Joseph Serock – 55,000
Peter Eastgate – 53,000
Martin Bjerring Hansen – 52,000
Frederik Brink Jensen – 44,000
Trond Eidsvig – 40,000
Tommy Pavlicek – 36,000
Dennis Hansen – 27,000
Noah Boeken – 24,000
Alex Kravchenko – 23,000
