The Grand Final of the Pokerstars European Poker Tour got underway in Monte Carlo this weekend, with 392 players registering on Day 1a of the €10,000 buy-in event. Many of the best players from around the world appeared, including Greg Raymer, Annette Obrestad, Eli Elezera, Phil Ivey, Erick Lindgren, Patrik Antonius, Freddy Deeb, Barry Greenstein and more.
One of the first casualties of the day was Tony G, whose flush draw didn’t improve against his opponent’s set, sending him on his bike pedalling towards the rail. Another player who hit the canvas early was Katja Thater, whose top pair top kicker was drawing slim to the flopped two pair of her conqueror. There was no help to come for Katja and it was goodbye for the WSOP bracelet winner.
Other well known players who couldn’t make it to Day 2 included de Wolfe, Obrestad, Raymer , Lindgren, Lisandro and Mercier. Those who were still well in the mix at the end of the day did include Obrestad’s fellow countryman and online pro Johnny Lodden, and the overnight chip leader was yet another Norwegian, Stephan Kjerstad.
