EPT Kyiv Wraps Up, Lykov Retains Chip Lead

Friday, 21 August 2009

Max Lykov managed to hold on to the chip lead he had established on Day 2 at the PokerStars EPT Kyiv, entering the money in the best possible position for a tournament player.

Just 68 players out of the original near-300 that had created a €1,391,200 prize pool began the day, and we finished in the money with only 32 remaining and 40 paid. In the first level alone, 17 players made their respective exits from the tournament.

In the middle of Level 15 the 42nd-place finisher was eliminated which prompted hand-for-hand play. Fortunately for players and dealers alike, this lasted just 20 minutes before the elimination of Serguei Pomerantsev at the hands of German Jonas Kronwitter.

Between that time and the end of the day’s play, eight players earned €7,610 for busting just inside the money, and the grind ended with the elimination of Albert Sungatullin in 33rd.

The remaining 32 players come back to Kyiv’s Sporting Palace tomorrow at noon Ukranian time (GMT+2) to play down to the final table.
