The Simon Day Charity Tournament is something we have touched upon recently on Bluff Europe, with its work helping the homeless of Dublin being supported by many poker players in Ireland the last few weeks. Now the European Poker Tour has leant its support by donating an EPT Grand Final Monte Carlo seat worth €10,600 to the prizepool.
Padraig Parkinson is the spokesman for the group of players who are organising the event – most likely as he wouldn’t let the others have a word in edgeways, if his reputation is anything to go by. He said “This is astounding generosity from John Duthie – we just need to figure out how best to use it now to help the homeless!”
John Duthie, CEO of the EPT responded, “I was happy to help out. It was either that or listen to Padraig incessantly for the next month. This should shut him up and he can focus his attention on organizing a tournament we’re all really looking forward to.”
The charity event saw over 200 players enter the event, and between them and the donations made from individuals and businesses, raised almost €50,000. Last year’s defending champion, former WSOP Main Event Champion Noel Furlong, will be back, alongside Mad Marty Wilson and celebrities including Steve Davis and Ken Doherty.
