EPT Deauville sees 339 runners on Day 1a

Thursday, 21 January 2010

Last year's PokerStars EPT event in Deauville saw a record field. This could well be surpassed this year, however, as 339 entrants signed up for the first flight. Team PokerStars pros were present but not in force - despite the recognisable names of Katja Thater and Arnaud Mattern, there were some faces missing.

Just under 200 players remain including EPT crusher Mike "Timex" McDonald as Day 1b begins tomorrow. Robert Cezarescu holds the overnight chip lead with 216,900 to his name as the 198 players retired for a much-needed break.

Mike McDonald is way behind that on 71,000 but that tally is still good for 5th place in chips - the young Canadian could be on his way to taking down a record 3rd EPT title but given the high variance nature of tournament poker anything could happen during the rest of the tournament.
