EPT: Day 1a from Barcelona Completed

EPT: Day 1a from Barcelona Completed

Thursday, 11 September 2008

The European Poker Tour has become as equally prestigious to its American counterpart in recent years, with the likes of Phil Ivey, Antonio Esfandiari, Patrik Antonius and Gus Hansen having tried to win a title (coincidentally, Antonius was successful). Barcelona is host to the season opener and once again the field is packed with recognised pros.

The first day alone was a who’s who of poker: Katja Thater, Noah Boeken, Vicky Coren, Greg Raymer, Barny Boatman, Dave "Devilfish" Ulliot, Michael Mizrachi and his brother Robert, Vanessa Rousso, Alex Kravchenko, Johan "busto_soon" Til, Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad, and many others were in attendance. It proved to be a tough day for the pros though, with Obrestad, Ulliott and David Williams all out in the early stages.

Two of the November Nine also made it to Barcelona, with Scott Montgomery and David Cheem making the trip across the Atlantic. It will be left to Montgomery to represent the WSOP final tablists, after David Cheem was eliminated. Montgomery is in good shape though, taking 40,000 to Day Two.

Team PokerStars will be happy with their work though after Chad Brown finished near the top of the pile, along with Jason Mercier, who won the EPT San Remo in Season Four.

Top ten chip counts from Day 1a:

Michael Bernhard Murra - 87,000
Jason Mercier - 79,300
Nichlas Mattsson Saarisilta - 76,100
Rasmus Hede Nielsen - 73,100
Jesper Hougaard - 72,700
Haward Speer - 72,300
David Shave Kruger - 71,100
Chad Brown - 67,100
Dren Ukella - 65,800
Glen Chorny - 65,500
