Season nine of the European Poker Tour looks like it will get off to a flying start with a record number of online qualifiers expected in Barcelona next month. Organisers PokerStars are expected 300 players to have bagged a seat by the time the tournament starts next month.

EPT Barcelona will run from August 15 – 25 at the Casino de Barcelona and the adjoining world-famous Arts Hotel, and for the first time will incorporate the popular Estrellas Poker tour into the schedule. A total of 47 events are scheduled during 11 days of action with buy-ins starting from just €110.

The top attraction of course is the €5,000 Main Event which has attracted the likes of Liv Boeree, 2011 WSOP Main Event winner Pius Heinz and tournament machine Jason Mercier. Other interesting events to look out for include the €2,000 Estrellas High Roller as part of the Estrellas Poker Tour, a €10,000 Heads Up Championships tournament, a €10,000 NL 8-handed tournament, plus a brand new €50,000 Super High Roller event, which will be filmed for TV and will be the highest buy-in tournament ever held in Spain.

“I’m very excited about all the high roller action that is on the schedule for the EPT Barcelona festival,” said Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, “There’s lots to keep players like me happy, including a great Heads Up Championship event, which mixes up the format a bit from the traditional No Limit Hold’em events. I’m also looking forward to taking on my fellow pros in the €50,000 Super High Roller.”

There’s still time to join ElkY and co in the Catalan capital next month and qualify for EPT Barcelona with PokerStars. New depositors can try their luck with a first deposit bonus of up to £400. Sign up here.
