EPT £20k High Roller Event – 32 Left in the Field

Thursday, 1 October 2009

Day 1 of the £20,000 High Roller event at the PokerStars EPT London concluded with a little less than half of the seventy-strong field remaining after ten 100-minute blind levels that saw off the likes of Dwan, Moneymaker, Raymer, Greenstein and ElkY.

The man responsible for that last elimination is Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, who chipped up from his 50,000 starting stack to the better part of 400,000 and the chip lead. The Finn arrived four hours late after his elimination from the WSOPE Main Event, joking that at least he’d avoid being knocked out first this way.

The winner of this event, which pays out the top eight (i.e., the final table) stands to earn over half a million – the first-place prize is £542,000 to be precise. Jason Mercier can’t defend his title, but he is looking likely to take down the WSOPE Main Event so I’m sure he won’t mind.

The top five players by chip count at the EPT London £20k event are:

Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies (373,800)
Adolpho Vaeza (319,500)
Erik Cajelais (264,600)
Eugene Katchalov (213,700)
Joel Nordkvist (190,600)
