EMOP Barcelona Concludes; Swedes dominate

EMOP Barcelona Concludes; Swedes dominate

Monday, 3 August 2009

After successful legs including a €250,000 prize pool in Prague, the European Masters of Poker tournament moved to Barcelona, Spain, for the biggest event yet with a predicted 500 entrants almost doubling the Prague purse.

It proved to be a very successful tournament for the poker economy of Sweden, as five of the top six players at the final table hailed from the Scandinavian nation. However, due to a chip chop when the action went three-handed, the biggest money actually went to Poland in the shape of 2nd-place finisher Maciej Swicarz. Third place, Sweden's Kristian Eriksson, also took more than the winner. You don't see that every day.

The full final table placings are as follows:

1. Anton Wigg €55,502

2. Maciej Swicarz €73,655

3. Kristian Eriksson €65,565

4. Manfred Kåvestam €23,142

5. Morgen Karlsson €18,354

6. Andreas Jansson €15,162

7. Diomedes Sebastiano €12,768

8. Juha-Matti Toivainen €10,773

9. Julien Herold €8,778

The last event of the first season of EMOP will be in Malta in September. Online qualifiers can be found at the Entraction network at either NoiQ Poker or DevilfishPoker.
