Dusty Schmidt drops lawsuit

Dusty Schmidt drops lawsuit

Friday, 7 August 2009

Last month we brought you the news that golfer turned professional poker player Dusty Schmidt was taking the USGA to court in a bid to win back his amateur status. Schmidt played golf professionally until a heart attack at the age of just 23 forced him to quit.

The youngster then took up poker and became so successful that he was able to throw down a $1m golf and poker challenge. Anyone who could beat him at both disciplines would take the money. The USGA didn’t like the sound of that and revoked his amateur golf licence, hence the court battle.

After consulting with lawyers yesterday, Schmidt decided that there wasn’t a chance that he could win the case. He’s now decided to play a few professional golf tournaments in addition to his professional poker commitments.
