Dusk Till Dawn announces new tournament schedule

Wednesday, 30 September 2009

It has been a busy few weeks for Dusk Till Dawn. Hot on the heels of a very successful $1m English Open comes the news that the Nottingham venue will be opening seven days a week. There is a new tournament schedule too with something for beginners as well as more experienced players.

Owner Rob Young said, “By opening 7 days we are able to introduce a number of different tournaments to cater for different tastes, bankrolls and experience, we will also be now able to recruit more staff so that we can hold our major monthly events 'in 'house. Last month we had 600 people turn up for our £100k Deepstack Weekend and had to fly in freelance poker dealers from France to cope. With the launch of a further new monthly event, the £40k 'Twenty Twenty', where we expect over 500 entries each month, having more dealers will become even more important."

The expanded hours are a real boost for poker in the midlands, especially after the club was hit with a £500,000 tax bill earlier this year. Young said, "It was a very tough time for everyone, after all of the hard work put in by our staff, the new poker tax felt like a real kick in the teeth, however, we have dusted ourselves down, paid every penny of the tax and we will soldier on. We had a few decent offers to buy us out, but it just didn't feel right to chuck the towel in after trading for less than 18 months, especially since it took so long through the courts to even get the place open."

The new schedule starts today with two tournaments pencilled in for 8pm and 8.15pm every day. Four events will have buy ins of just £10 or £15 and will be aimed specifically at beginners.
