DuplicatePoker.com Shut Down

Wednesday, 8 October 2008

DuplicatePoker.com, the online poker site that operated openly in several US states owing to its original approach to the game, has announced that it has shut up shop this past weekend due to the current global ‘credit crunch’.

“DuplicatePoker.com is sadly bidding farewell to its players,” read a statement that appeared on the site from Sunday.

“Caught in the middle of the global financial situation, the company is not able to continue to provide service. We are a small victim of the global financial crisis. We thank our players for being with us. Hopefully at later time and in a better economic climate DuplicatePoker.com will re-appear.”

Confusingly, only two weeks ago the site had claimed that it was continuing to be successful and had passed the milestone of 250,000 players.

"DuplicatePoker.com has quickly gained global appeal and poker players at all levels are playing this new game and developing new strategies for winning," said Pinhas Romik, Chief Executive Officer for DuplicatePoker.com, at the time.

"Our revenues have increased six-fold since the public launch and we expect the game's popularity to continue its upward trajectory."

I supppose that was a bluff, then.
