It was clear from the offset that this final table was going to be a two horse race between Englishman Roland De Wolfe and Swede sensation William Thorsson. The two chip leaders fought it out for the €554,000 first prize, from the opening hand right to the finish. It was the Londoner who prevailed however, landing the life changing sum.
De Wolfe hit the lids well winning a lot of the early pots. Being the chip leader can have its benefits and burdens, but it became clear quite early that this man knew how to handle a chip lead. Asking questions like, “How much have you got left there?” and “Do you want me to gamble with you?” Roland De Wolfe enforced himself upon the table and brought the game to his opponents.
Thorsson was perhaps a shade unlucky to only come fourth in the end, but he lost some key races and got involved in expensive lay downs to the chip leader. He clearly has the ability to succeed at the highest level and we’re sure to see him again on the big stage. One of the performances of the day had to go to Frenchman David Tavernier. Having been a big underdog before the start of play, Tavernier went on to finish a very respectable second place. But no doubt the key man and the man who will be remembered from this event will no doubt be WPT and now EPT winner Roland De Wolfe.
