Doyle Brunson awarded lifetime membership to Epic Poker

Wednesday, 14 December 2011

Epic Poker League commissioners Annie Duke and Jeffrey Pollack have awarded Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson lifetime membership to the Epic Poker League. Doyle is the first pro to be granted entry to any Epic Poker League tournament forever.

Usually the league awards cards of 1 to 5 years membership based tournament performance. Brunson, a poker pro in his seventies who has had a fifty year career including ten WSOP bracelets and countless millions in cash game earnings, has been granted lifetime membership based on his contribution to poker and, well, epic career.

"He just has this secret sauce of every accomplishment you can imagine, big generosity to the poker community, incredible longevity, amazing ambassadorship," Annie Duke said to the Associated Press. "And then on top of that he's just an easy guy to really like."

Despite this, Brunson said he is unlikely to play any events: “As I get older, tournaments are getting too hard… I much prefer to play cash games,” he said, though he also said he appreciated the honour.
