Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Classic begins

Tuesday, 15 December 2009

The Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas is once again playing host to the cream of poker’s crop as the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond Classic $15,000 WPT Championship gets under way.

At the end of the first day there was a Fish at the top of the chip counts. It was some random donk who'd lucked his way to a big stack though. The Fish in question was Daryll Fish who ended the day with over 236,000 in chips.

Other big names amongst the 280 opening day survivors include Billy Kopp on 201,000, Antonio Esfandiari on 185,000 and David Benyamine on 176,000. There were early exits though from Daniel Negreanu, Jeff Madsen and defending champion Chino Rheem.

Entries are allowed up to level eight and it's expected that Phils Ivey and Hellmuth will be making their respective bows today.

The action resumes at 8pm UK time.
