Double delight for Greg Raymer

Double delight for Greg Raymer

Wednesday, 3 October 2012

Former World Champion Greg Raymer has won the latest stop on America’s Heartland Poker Tour. In doing so he pocketed himself $121,973, and rocketed himself to the top of the HPT player of the year leaderboard. Raymer's previous win came less than three months before this title, when he took down the HPT Albuquerque Main Event.

The "Fossilman" came top of a 336-strong field in Missouri, outlasting names such as Dennis Phillips who just missed out on the final table and finished in 7th place, and Shawn Roberts who came in 4th.

“Winning two of three tournaments is unreal and unexpected,” said Raymer, “I’m just very excited.”

Only one other person before him has achieved the amazing feat of winning two titles in the same season, and that was Jeremy Dresch back in 2009. Not satisfied with that, Dresch went on to add a third title two years later.

The final payouts were:

1 Greg Raymer $121,973
2 Ryan Hickey $69,034
3 Alona Sushynina $43,908
4 Reginald “Shawn” Roberts $37,810
5 Penelope Banhidy $29,272
6 Stan Jablonski $23,906
