Double delight for Brock Parker as he wins back to back bracelets

Friday, 12 June 2009

Brock Parker, the man with the best beard in poker (with the possible exception of Andy Black), has won his second bracelet of the 2009 WSOP. The 27-year-old added the $2,500 No Limit Hold Em Six Handed title to the Six Handed Limit bracelet he won earlier this week.

Parker faced a much bigger field for bracelet number two, outlasting 1,067 players for a cash of $552,745. He sealed the win hitting trip queens to beat heads up opponent Joseph Serock’s pair of 10s. Commenting on why he’s so successful at the short-handed game Parker said “I like to play more hands. Playing nine-handed is pretty boring. I guess Six-Handed gets more motivated because I get to play in a lot of pots.”

Big names who made the money included Men Nguyen in 16th, Erick Lindgren in 29th, Howard Lederer in 30th and Layne Flack in 68th. James Sudworth led the British challenge, bubbling the final table for a 7th place finish and a cash of $54,777.

The win took Parker’s WSOP earnings past the $1m mark. He is the 125th player to reach this milestone.

The final positions and payouts were as follows:

1. Brock Parker $552,745

2. Joseph Serock $341,783
3. Russell Crane $220,633
4. Jesse Rios $148,661
5. Alex Wilson $104,323
6. Clayton Newman $76,123
