Double WPT delight for Tommy Vedes

Double WPT delight for Tommy Vedes

Tuesday, 24 April 2012

When Tommy Vedes considers his favourite poker venues it's fair to say that the Seminole Hard Rock in Florida will be high up on the list. The American pro made the final table at last year's WPT Showdown event there and went even better this time.

Vedes started the day as the short stack but worked his way through a final table that included Kyle Bowker, Sharon Levin, Craig Bergeron and long time chip leader Joe Serock to set up a heads up clash with John Dolan. The 2010 November Niner went into two handed play with a decent chip lead but the momentum shifted when Vedes hit a flush to beat Dolan's top pair.

The final hand of play, saw all the chip hits the middle preflop with Dolan holding K6 and Vedes A10d. The KJ6 flop gave Dolan top and bottom pair, but Vedes had an inside straight draw. Sure enough, a Queen arrived on the turn and with Dolan unable to fill up on the river, the latest two-time WPT champion was crowned.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st: Tommy Vedes - $779,520 (includes $25,500 WPT World Championship seat)
2nd: John Dolan - $459,360
3rd: Joe Serock - $306,240
4th: Craig Bergeron - $212,976
5th: Sharon Levin - $158,688
6th: Kyle Bowker - $122,496
