Dewitt heads LA Poker Classic Main Event

Monday, 28 February 2011

While Europe's finest were doing battle in Denmark at EPT Copenhagen the cream of America's poker talent (alongside a sprinkling of Euros, Antipodeans and Asians) were doing battle at the WPT LA Poker Classic Main Event at the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles.

At the close of day three just 63 of the starting field of 681 are still in the hunt with Jason Dewitt leading the way. The American is the only player with a seven figure stack but he'll face some stiff competition for the title with the likes of Michael Mizrachi, Kathy Liebert, Joe Hachem, Daniel Alaei, Allen Cunningham, Carlos Mortensen and Shannon Shorr all very much in the hunt.

Hoyt Corkins was the unfortunate bubble boy meaning that the 63 survivors are guaranteed at least $22,230 of the $6,537,600 prize pool. The eight players who make the final table will earn at least $130,750 with the winner set to walk away with $1,654,120.

The leading chip counts are as follows:

1 Jason DeWitt 1,023,000
2 Richard Toth 993,000
3 James Carroll843,000
4 David Baker 702,000
5 Mike Sowers 677,000
6 Shannon Shorr 655,000
7 MattBerkey 625,000
8 Darryll Fish 595,000
9 Nikolay Evdakov 583,000
