A sell out field of 130 players gathered at Edinburgh’s Gala Maybury Casino over the weekend for the Scottish leg of the Amateur Poker Association and Tour. In the end it was Hawick’s Derek Murdie who emerged victorious to claim the £3,000 first prize plus a seat in the GUKPT Champion of Champions event courtesy of sponsors Blue Square Poker.

Murdie sealed the victory beating David Blane (no, not that one) heads up. Blane got his chips, trying to bluff his 73, on a 65JJ board. Murdie, holding 86 called. The river was blank giving the Hawick man the win.

APAT now heads to Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham for their showpiece World Amateur Poker Championship event at the end of August. In addition to the 450-runner Hold’em championship there will be Omaha and HORSE titles up for grabs.
