David Marley wins latest leg of the Sky Poker Tour

Monday, 11 January 2010

A capacity crowd gathered at Newcastle's Aspers Casino over the weekend for the second leg of the 2009/10 Sky Poker Tour. Despite the big field, there was to be no ‘waiting in vain’ for David Marley who took the title.

The Bridlington man got the crucial bit of luck he needed when play was four-handed. Calling John Pick’s shove, Marley revealed pocket nines, someway behind Pick’s pocket Jacks. A beautiful flop of Q-9-9 gave the Yorkshireman the pot, leaving Pick to settle for £1,500 for his 4th place finish.

Marley took that momentum with him through to heads up play against Raffles. The chips eventually went in on a 9-7-10 flop. Raffles revealed 10-4 for top pair with Marley turning over 7-8 for bottom pair and an open ended straight draw. The turn was a harmless deuce but the Jack on the river gave Marley the win, £4,000 and a seat in the Sky Poker Tour Grand Final. Raffles took £2,500 for his runner up finish.

The next stop on the Sky Poker Tour is the G Casino in Luton on 6th March. If you’d like to join Tikay and co then you can qualify by visiting Sky Poker.
