Dave Garden wins APAT World Championship for £12k

Thursday, 1 September 2011

At the same time that over 1,700 players were breaking records in Coventry at the GUKPT Goliath event, the Dusk Till Dawn club just up the road hosted over 400 players in the APAT World Championships of Amateur Poker.

No small affair, this festival included not only a £100 Main Event but also side events in Stud, Omaha, heads-up and short-handed play. However, the Main Event was the granddaddy and attracted the 405-strong field with Dave Garden winding up triumphant.

Garden’s A-K held up in the final hand against Andrew Duffin, who had to settle for second and just over £7,000. Garden walks away with a cool £12,092 as well as the APAT trophy and title.

It's been quite the month for Garden who won the Palm Beach Big Game and pocketed £30,100 at the beginning of August.

Other winners include Chris Peers in the heads-up event; Andrea Lombardi in the Omaha, Jon Seal in Stud and Paul McGuiness in HORSE.

The Main Event final table payouts were as follows:
1. Dave Garden - £12,092
2. Andrew Duffin - £7,069
3. Paul Cammiss - £4,241
4. Gary Strang - £2,976
5. Christian Rzegotta - £2,232
6. Bradley Girard - £1,674
7. Gary Orme - £1,302
8. Colburn Tomlin - £930
9. Mark Sanders - £744
