Finally it’s arrived. The first book to be published detailing the ins and outs of Britain’s poker scene, Swimming With The Devilfish – Under The Surface Of Professional Poker, is to be published by Macmillan this June.
Detailing a six month period that author Des Wilson spent in the company of the UK’s best players, the book provides an insight into how the game went from a game in back alley clubs in the inner cities to an internet and TV phenomenon. It also gives a revealing look at life on the pro circuit with profiles of the likes of the Hendon Mob, Dave Colclough and Willie Tann.
But if there’s any reason to shell out, then it has to be the biography of the Devilfish, undoubtedly the most gifted and colourful player the UK has at the moment. Not only does he talk about his, ahem, interesting past, but he also sets the scene for the book’s final showdown between the old pros and the new internet based kids. Certainly one for the beach this summer.
