Pokerstars has had something of a grandstand finish to 2007, breaking the record for the most number of players simultaneously playing, along with a massive prize pool in their flagship tournament, the Sunday Million. One of the newest recruits to Team Pokerstars, Dario Minieri, had a fantastic Sunday of his own.
The diminutive Italian rose to the fore when his fiery and somewhat crazy-aggressive style of poker propelled him to the chip lead after several days at the World Series Main Event. Donning his favourite Roma scarf whilst moving his chips about like there was no tomorrow, Minieri became a recognisable face – that was if he hadn’t felted you before you got comfortable in your seat.
He was also one of the first people to claim a Porsche Caymen entirely from his Frequent Player Points on Pokerstars, winning over $450,000 in heads up sit and go’s on the site in recent months. On Sunday, he managed to pull off a remarkable feat though, winning three of the toughest field tournaments in a row.
First up was $50,000 when he won the $10,000 High Stakes Showdown, the weekly heads up tournament which attracts the biggest pros on the site. Next was the $215 rebuy event, another tournament packed with the best online players Pokerstars has to offer. This added $56,000 to the bankroll, and he then won the $5,200 winner takes all freezeout for $100,000.
Not bad for day’s work. Oh, and he went deep in the Sunday Million itself, finishing 42nd, making his 24 hour earnings a shade over $200,000. La dolce vita indeed.
