Danny Ball heads DTD Monte Carlo

Friday, 15 April 2011

The prospect of a £250,000 guaranteed prize pool attracted some of Britain's finest tournament players to Dusk Till Dawn yesterday for the first of two opening day flights of the £1,000 buy-in DTD Monte Carlo event.

Amongst the 104 starters were the likes of James Dempsey, Matt Perrins and Jack Ellwood but by the close of play it was the unheralded Danny Ball who was holding the chip lead on 136,900 followed by Henry Whale on 131,000.

Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mercier have unlikely achieved back-to-back wins at the NAPT Mohegan Sun event this week. Could the same happen in Nottingham? Well it's certainly a possibility as last year's Monte Carlo Main Event winner, Waheed Ashraf, currently sits in third in the chip counts on 130,400.

Other notables among the 42 players who made it through to Day 2 included 2010 WSOP bracelet winner Steve Jelinek, Bluff Europe columnist Paul Zimbler and Dave 'Devilfish' Ulliott.

A much bigger field is expected for the second opening flight which gets under way at 2pm today. Join us over the weekend for updates.
