Daniel Smith's Unibet Triumph

Daniel Smith's Unibet Triumph

Tuesday, 23 September 2014

The latest leg of the Unibet Open is in the book with Britain's Daniel Smith triumphing in Cannes.

The British pro topped a field of 457 runners at the Casino Barriere de la Croisette to pocket a first prize of €88,000. Now based in Monaco, Smith topped a high-class final table that included former Unibet Open finalists Davor Pavic and Krzysztof Stuchlik and fellow Brit Vinod Jadav.

The home challenge was strong too with 2008 Partouche Poker Tour Main Event winner Alain Roy also making a deep run. The Frenchman's challenge stalled in third place though, leaving Smith to battle it out with Michael Nielsen for the title.

The Brit faced a big chip deficit at the start of heads up play but took control after an early double up with As9h against the Dane's KcJc. Smith didn't look back after taking the lead and eventually prevailed when his KK prevailed against Nielsen's KhQs.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Daniel Smith United Kingdom €88000
2 Michael Nielsen Denmark €62000
3 Alain Roy France €40000
4 Davor Pavic Sweden €30000
5 Krzysztof Stuchlik Poland €22000
6 Nicolas Le Floch France €18270
7 Vinod Jadav United Kingdom €14600
8 Daniel Johansson Sweden €11200
9 Giuseppe Zarbo France €8800

The Unibet Open caravan heads to the UK for its next top. Aspers Casino in Stratford, east London is the venue for the €1,000+€100 Main Event which takes place from 27-30 November 2014.
