Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier in tournament prop bet

Wednesday, 5 January 2011

Both Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier have a lot in common – the PokerStars Pros are well known for dominating the live tournament circuit, though Mercier has arguably taken that crown from Negreanu in more recent years. Nevertheless, Negreanu is confident enough to make a high stakes wager with Mercier for the entire year.

They are cross-booking each other’s action in a different way; paying their opponent $2,000 for each cash their opponent makes, $5,000 for every final table, $10,000 for a top three finish and $25,000 for a victory. Negreanu has also made this bet with Daniel Alaei and Mercier has also bet with WSOP 2010 Player of the Year Frank Kassela.

Had this bet been made in early 2010 then Negreanu would wind up a loser but only by $8,000, being paid $89,000 by Mercier but owing his fellow PokerStars player $97,000. Mercier just about beats him with more top three finishes but had Negreanu gone a little deeper in the Tournament of Champions, the APPT Grand Final or the EPT Vienna then it would have been Mercier stumping up the cash.

This year – who knows? The impending PokerStars Caribbean Adventure could get this bet started nicely.
