He may be the centre of attention at the moment for filming the first poker reality TV series but Bodog.com CEO, Calvin Ayre has hit the news for all the wrong reasons after his home in Costa Rica was raided over the weekend.
The tycoon was said to be in violation of a 1922 law that outlaws physical gambling in the country. Although police took a computer and a number of discs, what they found when they burst in was not actually a game of poker, but a film crew and a number of scantily clad women simulating a game with contestants on the show.
The fact that they were simulating the game for filming purposes means that Ayre is likely to get off on a technicality and all the money being used is Ayre’s own and not the contestants.
So now not only does he have a reality poker series, but some great footage of Costa Rican cops busting his mansion. It’s thought that Ayre’s recent profile in Forbes magazine alerted Costa Rican officials who perhaps thought they too could make some headlines.
