Christian Vanzieleghem wins European Deepstack Championship

Monday, 13 February 2012

Christian Vanzieleghem can be added to the list of famous Belgians, well the list of famous poker playing Belgians at least, after taking down the European Deepstack Poker Championship in Dublin over the weekend.

After busting out on Day 1A (at the hands of eventual runner up Julien Deveau), Vanzieleghem bought back in on the second opening flight and didn't look back from there, finishing at the top of the chip counts on Day 1B, Day 2 and all important on the final day. The Belgian agreed a chop with Deveau and Benjamin Dadon when play was three handed before playing on for some extra cash, the trophy and the number one spot on the Hendon Mob entry.

After Dadon's elimination in third place, Deveau and Vanzieleghem enjoyed a swift heads up battle with all the chip hitting the middle on an A-9-7-8 board with the Belgian's A7 crushing the Frenchman's A2. The turn was a harmless Q giving Vanzieleghem his biggest tournament victory to date.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1 Christiaan Vanzieleghem BEL €53,500
2 Julien Deveau FRA €40,000
3 Benjamin Dadon FRA €50,000
4 Youry De Winter BEL €25,150
5 Anthony Guibert FRA €17,500
6 Daniel Carter UK €12,200
7 Junior Walden SWE €8,700
8 Thomas Boivin BEL €6,150
9 Andrew Wayman UK €4,350
