Chris O'Donnell wins UKIPT Brighton

Monday, 18 July 2011

When asked what his strategy at final table of UKIPT Brighton would be Chris O'Donnell jokingly replied, “I don't really have one to be honest. I'm just going to see what happens. Basically I'm gonna wing it.” Well winging it could be the new poker style of choice after O'Donnell took the honours in the south coast showpiece.

The 26-year-old from Southampton outlasted his way through a massive 603 runner field (more that double the number that played in last year's event) to pocket a first prize of £71,100. O'Donnell, a former flatmate of EPT Vilamoura winner Toby Lewis, worked his way through a final table that included David Trigg, Norway's Rudi Johnson and tournament veteran Jeff Duvall to set up a heads up clash with home player Richard Hasancebi. After a cagey session of two-handed play O'Donnell finally sealed the victory when his AK held up against Hasancebi's A7.

The final table positions and payouts were as follows:

1st: Chris O'Donnell, United Kingdom, £71,100
2nd: Richard Hasancebi, United Kingdom, £41,300
3rd: Jeff Duvall, United Kingdom, £25,300
4th: Rudi Johnsen, Norway, £18,600
5th: Sinem Melin, United Kingdom, £14,900
6th: David Rudling-Smith, United Kingdom, £11,400
7th: David Trigg, United Kingdom, £8,950
8th: Jaroslav Horak, Czech Republic, £6,900
