Chris Ferguson Takes Down UKIPT Newcastle

Tuesday, 11 September 2012

23-year-old Chris Ferguson has won UKIPT Newcastle. The young Scot outlasted a tough final table of 8 players that included November Niner Sam Holden to pocket a first prize of £87,640.

After the 2011 World Series of Poker finalist busted in 3rd place for £39,030 it was left to Alexander Jobling to battle it out with Ferguson for the title. Jobling had earlier cracked overnight chip leader Jack Sambrook’s aces with pocket jacks and looked set to seal the title when getting all the chips in with AK against Ferguson’s 9-5s. Dolly Parton turned into a full house by the turn though to level the stacks. It was all over soon after the pair agreed a chop, with Ferguson on the right end of a classic pre-flop coin flip when his pocket eights held over Jobling’s AQs.

"I doubted myself at quite a few stages, but when I got to heads-up I was more confident about winning," said Ferguson, "The first thing I'm going to buy is a deluxe holiday. But I will celebrate with a few drinks tonight. I really want to play full-time, it felt incredible to win."

The UKIPT heads online for its next event. The £700+£35 takes place at PokerStars on 14 and 15 October 2012. Qualifiers are up and running now. New depositors can try their luck with a first deposit bonus of up to £400. Sign up PokerStars.
