Chris Day Shines on Day 1A at Deauville

Monday, 27 January 2014

The opening session of this year's PokerStars EPT Deauville Main Event got under way over the weekend and by the time the dust had settled it was Chris Day who held the slightest of chip leads.

After welcoming 234 players to the felt at the start of the day, a host of local talent got down to the sticky business of competing with a selection of travelling pros, including Eugene Katchalov and Marcin Horecki.

The early action was frantic thanks to many of the French amateurs adopting a typically loose style and as the action progressed the likes of David Vamplew, Arnaud Mattern and recent EPT winner, Dominik Panka hit the rail.

However, whilst many drowned in the choppy waters, Britain's Day was able to thrive and close out the session with 154,100 chips. That haul was just a single chip (worth 100) more than Jorma Nuutinen who scooped 154,000 to finish second on the daily standings.

Overall Day 1A saw 100 players hit the rail and close with 134 hopefuls, including Barny Boatman (102,000), Niall Farrell (65,600), Dominik Nitsche (54,400) and Michael Gathy (20,200), all still in with a chance of scooping the latest EPT title.

Day 1B will begin later today and when by the time the registration desks close the organisers expect yesterday's total runners to be doubled.
