Producers of Bravo’s ever-popular Celebrity Poker Showdown have announced that the show will go on despite the sponsors pulling out, adding that they were close to securing a new sponsorship deal. Original backers, wireless phone company, Cingular, dropped their support and the $250,000 charity pot last week after objecting to the use of (bleeped out) bad language and copious imbibing, practised by certain celebrity guests.
Bravo says that the show, currently half way through its first season, is welcome back for a fourth. Although players haven’t been lined up, the show will run for six weeks and retain host, Dave Foley, and poker pundit, Phil Gordon. The series is hot property for Bravo, and currently number two in their ratings list with about 1 million viewers per week in the US.
