Cates extends Durrrr Challenge Lead

Cates extends Durrrr Challenge Lead

Thursday, 3 October 2013

The much-delayed Durrrr Challenge between Tom Dwan and Daniel Cates inched a step closer to completion yesterday with Jungleman extending his lead after a three-hour session at the online tables.

It looked as if Cates was going to run away with the session after establishing a $100,000 advantage after less than three quarters of an hour. Dwan didn't let his rival have it all his own way though, turning the match on its head to take a big lead himself, thanks largely to flopping trips which held against Jungleman's flush draw.

By the end of the 1,485 hand session Cates had taken control though, winning a huge $85,838 pot after turning a flush which also gave Dwan top two pair. All told, Cates boosted his overall advantage by almost $200,000 by the close of play.

Just over 40% of the scheduled hands of the Durrrr Challenge have taken place to date with Cates now around $1.4m to the good. If Jungleman goes on to take the match he's set to pocket whatever he wins plus $1.5m. If Dwan stages an amazing comeback he'll take his winnings plus $500,000.
