Two dozen of poker’s elite have gathered at the Casino Morongo to contest the Poker Superstars Invitational II.
Among those playing are poker legend Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson and Chris Moneymaker, all of whom have committed a $40,000 buy-in to participate in the tournament, as well as staking their reputations as top class poker players.
The showcase event is being considered as a benchmark, as to how far the game has progressed in the era of mass communications, taking advantage of extensive television coverage and internet availability.
'It's the camera. People can see what you've got now, they know what you're doing and can play the hand along with you. It was actually boring for the TV audience before the camera because they didn't know what was happening,” 71-year-old Brunson explained.
The tournament, to be screened on Fox Sports, is taking place at the Casino Morongo – the $250 million complex is due to open officially in December.
