Carl McCarthy leads GUKPT Manchester

Friday, 28 January 2011

Over 60 players gathered at Manchester's G casino yesterday for the first of two opening flights of the first GUKPT Main Event of 2011.

At the close of play it was Carl McCarthy who held the chip lead, his stack of 89,200 around 5,000 ahead of closest rival Allan McLean, Andrew Wright and Charles Denton.

Other notables to make it through to day 2 include Julian Gardner, Jeff Kimber, Marc Goodwin and 2008 EPT Budapest winner Will Fry. Karl Mahrenholz won't be back though after busting out just before the close. Joining the Hit Squadee on the rail were GUKPT side event winner Lynne Beaumont, Jo Grech and EPT London PLO 8 runner up Peter Charalambous.

A bigger field is expected for the second opening flight which is starting under way as we write.
