It’s already been creating plenty of hype, and this weekend Calvin Ayre’s Wild Card Poker finally hits TV screens. Filmed at “the Compound”, Ayre’s private residence in Costa Rica, the show charts the progress of forty poker players and their play hard lifestyle as they got head-to-head for a $500,000 grand prize.
Beyond the poker, Ayre hopes the show will give viewers a unique insight into how the poker world operates and what actually went down whilst the show was being filmed.
It’s been well documented that Costa Rican officials raided Ayre’s home after they received a tip off that they were holding an illegal game of poker. What they found was a group of people playing cards but no money changing hands. Stressful for Ayre and the players no doubt, but also great publicity for the show.
Participants will not only include top pros taken from Ayre’s own Team Bodog, such as David Williams, Evelyn Ng and Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, but also a number of celebrities and twenty qualifiers from Ayre’s Bodog website. It’s certain that this mix of top pros, celebrity players and online winners will throw up some surprises as the season progresses.
