Brit Razavi Third in WPT China

The updates from China might have been scant due to the social media blackout across the country but we have been able to learn that the WPT’s landmark event was won by Zheng Hua Lei.

The invitational event was the first global WPT sanctioned event in China and after initially attracting 500 players the final field topped 542 (thanks to tournament director Matt Savage creating some more space for players).

A host of famous faces were asked to take part in the tournament, including Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan and recently ANZPT Grand Final winner Sam Razavi. Indeed, the British player managed to make it all the way to the final table before hitting the rail in 3rd place for $48,101.

Overall many of the players have had nothing for praise for the tournament, its location and the quality of poker on display. Indeed, as poker moves into a new year this Asian market looks to be one that could help reinvigorate the industry and provide a whole new wave of fish for players to feast on.

WPT National China Final Table Payouts:
1 Zheng Hua Lei $192,406
2 You Jia Wang $96,203
3 Sam Razavi $48,101
4 Yue Cao $32,067
5 Lei Xu $24,050
6 Li Fu Liu $19,240
7 Xue Yi Lin $15,232
8 Zhi Yong Li $12,827
9 Ji Wei Deng $11,223
