Former software programmer Steve Brecher outlasted a field of 391 runners to claim his first WPT title in the Bay 101 Shooting Star event.
The key hand came while 3 handed. Brecher's AQ looked to be dominated against eventual runner up Kathy Lieberts AK but a broadway straight kept his hopes alive. Brecher finally sealed the win after an epic 12 hour, 319 hand final table when his A9 held up against Liebert's Q10 all in push. A delighted Brecher said "It feels terrific - this is my first major tournament win and it's definitely something I've been lusting after for a long time". As well as the $1.025m in prize money, Brecher also claimed a seat in the $25K buy in WPT Championship. Liebert, looking to become the first woman to win a WPT event took over $500K for 2nd place. The final places were: Steve Brecher - $1,025,500 Kathy Liebert - $550,000 Chris Moore - $291,500 Tony Behari - $230,000 Thao Le - $180,000 Chau Vu - $135,000
