Breaking news - WSOPE heads to France

Wednesday, 9 February 2011

The World Series of Poker Europe will no longer be held in London. That is the surprise news from Caesars this afternoon. A three-year deal with Lucien Barriere, French Caesars Games and Interactive Entertainment will take the showpiece tournament series to the south of France.

This year's event is set to be expanded from five to seven events and will take place from 7-21 October at the Casino Barrière de Cannes Croisette which hosted the controversial Partouche Poker Tour final in November. The new venue will have room for 75 tables, double the capacity available at the Casino at the Empire in Leicester Square which has played host to the WSOPE since its 2007 inception.

“This is a unique agreement between two casino leaders with great brands," said Caesars Interactive Entertainment CEO Mitch Garber. "Lucien Barrière Hôtels & Casinos is a well-run organization and we are excited to work with them to access the French market with high-quality and reputable poker events both in their hotels and casinos, and online with BarrierePoker.fr.”

A series of qualifying events will be held throughout France to form the Barriere Poker Tour.
