Brandon Cantu leads EPT Vilamoura

Brandon Cantu leads EPT Vilamoura

Tuesday, 31 August 2010

Brandon Cantu has had plenty of success on the live tournament circuit including a pair of WSOP bracelets and a WPT title. Amazingly though he has never cashed on the European Poker Tour but unless something incredible occurs that should happen later today.

The 29-year-old finished Day 2 at EPT Vilamoura on 557,400 chips, well ahead of closest rival Andre Coimbra who has 476,400 chips. There's plenty of quality left throughout the field though including a strong British contingent lead by Sam Trickett, JP Kelly, Toby Lewis and Teddy Sheringham who are all in the upper echelons of the leader board. Other Brits still in the hunt are online qualifiers Carolyn Gray, Paul Foltyn and Stephen Chidwick.

It wasn't to be for Dario Minieri though who rapidly went from the top of the leader board to the rail yesterday. Other high profile bust outs were former EPT champs Vicky Coren and Liv Boeree, PokerStars pros John Duthie, David Williams and Alex Kravchenko and early pace setter Jonathan Weekes.

Just 70 players will be back for Day 3 with 56 making the money. Join us tomorrow to see whether Brandon Cantu is any closer to realising his triple crown dreams.

The leading chip counts are as follows:
Brandon Cantu 557,400
Andre Coimbra 476,400
Johan BergSweden 384,000
Sam Trickett 351,900
Grzegorz Cichocki 339,500
JP Kelly 314,000
Dmitry Gromov 305,200
Martin Jacobson 301,100
Marcin Horecki 280,500
