Atlantic City’s Borgata Hotel Casino And Spa kicked off the second annual Summer Poker Open this week with 456 players in its 85-table poker room.
The event is the largest poker tournament in Atlantic City this summer and was launched with a $500 plus $60 No Limit Hold’em event and will culminate with a $5,000 plus $200 No Limit Championship Event on Tuesday.
Players from all over filled Borgata's poker room for the start of the Open and in excess of 450 players registered for the first $500 plus $60 Event, which has a prize pool of $228,000.
'The event ran like clockwork and Borgata runs the best tournaments on the East Coast,” said accomplished poker professional, Joseph Brooks.
“With the World Series Of Poker going on at the same time, I did not know what to expect. Then I saw the full room and the atmosphere was great with the live action and the start of the Summer Open. This is a great event, close to home.'
The Summer Open Events are one-day tournaments and the initial championship went to New Jersey native Chris Kwon. He walked away with $67,000 after playing into the small hours of the morning.
'Borgata specifically designed the Summer Open structures and events to appeal to players taking day-trips and there is a great balance of tournament play along with live action in our room,” said Tab Duchateau, Tournament Director.
Reginald Leonardo of New York finished in second, taking home $35,340 in prize money, with third place going to Pennsylvania resident Krzysztof Perka, who won $18,200.
