Boeree leads Team UK to second place in World Cup of Poker

Boeree leads Team UK to second place in World Cup of Poker

Monday, 17 January 2011

Liv Boeree – officially almost as legendary as Bobby Moore; almost certainly better-looking. The lovely Ms. Boeree, our latest tournament star with an EPT San Remo title and PokerStars sponsorship under her belt, led England to a runner-up finish at the annual World Cup of Poker at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, losing out to Italy.

The USA, Spain, Slovakia, Argentina, France, the Philippines and Ukraine competed for global pride and bragging rights. It has been running since 2004 when Costa Rica secured their first of two consecutive victories. It has since been won by Poland, the USA, Germany and Chinese Taipei with the UK finishing runner-up three times now.

Boeree captained the UK against Italy’s side led by PokerStars Pro and EPT cashing machine Luca Pagano. Despite the second spot, the England team take home $17,500 apiece for their efforts but it won’t be much comfort to the already-minted team.
