It’s already known as one of the biggest gaming sites in the world and its billionaire owner has appeared on the cover of Forbes. Now though, Bodog.com is aiming to go even further, by guaranteeing 40 seats at the World Series of Poker Main Event every weekend. Owner Calvin Ayre, who is currently in the middle of presenting his Wild Card Poker TV series, says that the idea is to give the site’s loyal customers every possible chance to compete against the very best in a live situation.
Each Saturday, there will be 30 tournaments with buy-ins ranging from $67.50 to $270, the winners taking a seat worth $10,000 as well as $2,500 travel expenses and $1,000 worth of Bodog gear (presumably to be worn whilst taking players from other sites to the cleaners). There will also be 10 tournaments each Sunday, with the same prizes. Those who are either broke or fancy trying their luck can enter preliminary games for as little as $1.10. By winning five different stages players can qualify for the WSOP. Last year Bodog guaranteed its users 70 seats. This year the figure is approaching 700. It appears that Calvin Ayre is doing a deft job of becoming the hero of the poker world as well as its richest man.
