10 proved to be the lucky number for ‘Veteran In Love’ as the online poker player walked away with the $25,000 grand prize in last weekend’s Sunday $100,000 guaranteed online poker tournament at Bodog.
After making it to the final nine in a field of 927 players, the player entered the final table in the middle of the pack and slowly began to build his chip stack. The first hand involving what would become lucky tens for ‘Veteran In Love’, came when play was three-handed, and he called an all-in bet from ‘rvrmonkey’.
The cards were turned over to reveal ‘rvrmonkey’ with Ac5s and ‘Veteran In Love’ with pocket tens. The board completely missed ‘rvrmonkey’, and the river spiked a meaningless ten to complete his opponent’s set and send him home in third place ($9,000).
Down to heads-up play between ‘Veteran In Love’ and ‘Vatche’, and the two kept their chip stacks even for some time, but another big hand involving tens ended up dealing a crippling blow to ‘Vatche’.
After he called an all-in check raise on a flop of Js10c8d, ‘Vatche’ found himself facing a battle against two pair of eights and tens against his top pair of jacks. The turn and river blanked him, essentially doubling-up ‘Veteran In Love’.
On the very next hand, ‘Vatche’ pushed all-in with 9h2h and was quickly called by the 10h5c of ‘Veteran In Love’ who must have now learned to call anything with a ten in his hand. The flop came Jh10c3d to put ‘Veteran In Love’ in the lead with a pair of tens and when another ten came on the turn it sealed the deal and sent ‘Vatche’ home in second place ($14,000).
