Bluff Europe Weekend News Round-Up

Bluff Europe Weekend News Round-Up

Monday, 14 September 2009

In stark contrast to our last weekend news round-up, it appears that the past few days have been all about the live game. Despite offerings such as PokerStars’s World Championship of Online Poker and William Hill’s Monthly Million, the live arena has been bustling with more EPTs and WPTs than you can shake a stick at.

Oh, and we have the WSOPE arriving on our doorstep soon. It’s never been a better time to play live, although Brian “Flawless_Victory” Roberts did tell the 2 Months, 2 Million audience that live players are “pretty much universally terrible at all forms of poker.”

Fancy your share of £250,000? Win a seat for Dusk Till Dawn’s tournament.

There’s still time to compete in the UK’s premier poker club, as Nottingham’s Dusk Till Dawn are offering online satellites for their £250,000 guaranteed tournament. It takes place from December 16th until December 20th, as part of the club’s Million Dollar series.

Feeder tournaments are running online - series of €200+15 satellites that take place on the 27th September, 18th October, 8th November & 29th November 2009 will award a €2,000 package including entry and accommodation. If that’s still too expensive then you can qualify via €22 super-satellites.

Thomas Bichon Wins Full Tilt sponsored WPT Cyprus Event.

What do Chris Ferguson, Andy Bloch, John Juanda, Gus Hansen and Huck Seed have in common? Answer: they all hit the rail early in Full Tilt’s World Poker Tour Cyprus event that saw Thomas Bichon overcome his chip stack to take down a prize of almost $600,000.

In just two hands, Bichon had finished off runner-up Uri Keidar. Bichon’s 77 was in a classic coinflip with the JT of his opponent, but a flopped 7 and no backdoor straight saw him win $579,165.

Actor Mekhi Phifer Full Tilt’s Latest Red Pro?

You’ve probably hardly heard of him but he is actually well-known in the US, particularly for his long-running role on ER and his performance alongside Eminem in 8 Mile. Despite the cries of the Dwan fanboys it seems that Full Tilt have passed over him for an actor, who joins Don Cheadle on the roster of Full Tilt Thespians.

World Championship of Online Poker Still Going Strong

George Danzer became the first PokerStars Pro of 2009 to win a WCoOP title, taking down the $320 rebuy PLO six-max event in the only day of non-Hold ‘em tournaments in the series.

A total prize pool of $654,000 absolutely shat on the $400,000 guarantee with just under 1,000 entrants adding 575 re-buys and 679 add-ons to the pot. Humberto Brenes and Chris Moneymaker both found money finishes, but Danzer arrived at the final table with an almost-exactly average stack. Eventually he got it in with set-over-set to take down $109,545 and a prestigious online title.
