After poker’s conquering of TV, casinos are now turning their attention to online domination. Binions has announced plans to webcast poker tournaments live from Las Vegas, with the stated aim of ‘bringing new and young talent to public attention’.
Bicycle Casino already have such a project and the iStreamPlanet, who are behind their internet success are also helping out Binions. So far they have spent $80,000 installing seven cameras in and around a single poker table. The idea is that whoever wins one of the four daily poker tourneys at Binions gets a seat at the final table and a load of exposure thanks to an expected audience of 100,000 people. The internet broadcast will be different to TV in that shows will be unedited so those watching can really pick up on what’s going on. Whilst Binions hopes it will be a success, it’s also looks like a great way for poker players to use their computers for something other than actually playing online.
